THE HERALD was started more than 20 years ago by Marian Beil (Debre Berhan 62–64), currently president of E&E RPCVs, as a way to foster the natural bond that links the more than 3000 Peace Corps Volunteers and staff members who have served in Ethiopia or Eritrea. Starting out as a mimeographed flyer, it evolved into a printed 56-page magazine and is now a newsletter (please don’t call it a blog, because it’s not) distributed exclusively through the Internet.
THE HERALD carries news of the Ethiopia- and Eritrea-related activities of RPCVs. This includes stories and pictures of reunions, big and small, as well as the many service projects undertaken by RPCVs that benefit Ethiopia or Eritrea. Particularly popular are the articles THE HERALD runs about the travels RPCVs make back to Ethiopia, and, when they can get in, to Eritrea. THE HERALD loves receiving these reminiscences. The newsletter also provides news updates about Ethiopia and Eritrea, as well as reviews of books and films that deal with the region.
THE HERALD is edited by Barry Hillenbrand (Debre Marcos 63–65), a retired Time Magazine correspondent.
